SellOrchard

Food & grocery

From the oven to the doorstep, on your terms

Fresh food has a radius, a shelf life and regulars who buy the same thing every fortnight. Set where you deliver, who collects, and which staples renew by themselves.

  • Delivery zones
  • Local pickup
  • Subscribe & save
  • Gift messages
  • Pre-orders

Why food is different

Perishable stock asks harder questions of a store

  • You only deliver so far

A courier rate for the whole country makes no sense for sourdough that has to arrive the same day.

  • Regulars reorder by hand

The customer who buys coffee beans every two weeks has to remember — and some fortnights, they don’t.

  • Every order has a note

“No nuts please”, “It’s for Nan’s birthday”, “Can it be sliced?” — scattered across emails and phone calls.

  • Seasonal items sell before they exist

Holiday loaves and harvest boxes need to be sold in advance, without promising more than the kitchen can make.

How SellOrchard helps

Separate tools for the counter, the kitchen and the van

Each block is one feature. Combine them, or start with just one.

Delivery zones & pickup

Part of Shipping & fulfillment

Deliver nearby, let everyone else collect

Shipping zones are built from countries and the regions inside them, so a zone can cover only your own area with its own rates.

  • Flat rates, or rates by order value — e.g. free delivery once a basket passes $60
  • Minimum and maximum basket values per rate, plus delivery-day estimates
  • Pickup from any location you mark as a pickup point, with your own instructions
  • A “Ready for pickup” order status for collection orders

Subscriptions

Staples that reorder themselves

Offer subscribe-and-save on beans, flour or veg boxes; renewals are created on schedule.

  • Up to six plans per product, weekly or monthly (every 1–12), with 0–50% off
  • Subscription-only products for boxes you never sell one-off
  • Customers skip, pause, change quantity or swap a variant from their account
  • Stripe cards renew automatically; other payment methods get a pay-by-link email
  • A reminder email a few days before each renewal (3 by default)

Custom product fields

Part of Products & inventory

Notes, messages and choices on the product

Add up to 20 fields to a product so shoppers tell you what they need before they pay.

  • A text field for a gift message, with an optional add-on price for a gift box
  • A select such as “Grind: Whole bean / Espresso / Filter”, each with its own price
  • A required textarea where shoppers note allergies for the kitchen
  • Answers print on the order and the packing slip

Pre-orders

Part of Products & inventory

Sell the seasonal batch in advance

Put a variant on pre-order while it has no stock, with a note and an expected date shoppers can see.

  • A note such as “Collect from 20 December” and an expected date
  • A pre-order limit that matches what the kitchen can bake
  • “Only N left to pre-order” on the product page
  • A checkout note when a basket mixes pre-order and in-stock items

Order notifications

A text when the order is ready

Connect your own Twilio account to send order updates by SMS or WhatsApp to shoppers who ask for them.

  • Texts for placed, shipped, delivered, ready-for-pickup and cancelled
  • Your own wording with merge tags like {{first_name}} and {{order_number}}
  • Shoppers opt in at checkout; STOP replies are honoured automatically

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I limit delivery to my local area?

Shipping zones are made of countries and the regions within them (states, provinces), so you can create a zone for your own region with its own rates and leave other areas to pickup or courier rates. Zones don’t go down to individual postcodes.

Can customers choose a delivery date?

There’s no delivery-slot scheduler. You can add a date field to a product so shoppers tell you their preferred day, and use pre-order notes such as “Collect from 20 December” for fixed dates.

How do subscription payments work?

If your card gateway is Stripe, renewals are charged automatically to the saved card. With other methods, each renewal creates an order and emails the customer a link to pay.

Can I stop perishable items being returned?

Yes. Untick “Can be returned” on any product and it can’t be included in a return request.

Will allergen notes reach the kitchen?

Custom field answers are saved on the order item, shown on the order page and printed on the packing slip, so whoever packs the order sees them.
