What stays behind
The importer is for your catalogue. These aren't imported, so export them from your old platform before you close it.
- Customers and their accounts
- Past orders
- Product reviews
- Gift cards and discount codes
- Blog posts and content pages
- Your old theme and design
- Apps from your old platform
Step by step
An afternoon, not a project
The import itself takes a few clicks. Most of the time goes into making the new store look and feel like yours.
- 1
Export from your current platform
Download a product CSV from your old admin. Keep the file as it is — the importer understands each platform's own column names.
- 2
Upload and check the column match
SellOrchard detects the format and pairs every column with a field. Change any pairing, or point an unknown spreadsheet at the right fields.
- 3
Choose how to import
Create and update, create only or update only. Rows are matched to existing products by SKU, then by handle. Decide whether new products start as drafts.
- 4
Read the preview
See how many products will be created, updated, skipped or rejected, with the first 50 rows broken down and every problem listed by line.
- 5
Run it
The importer works through the file in batches while the counts climb. Cancel at any point; a log keeps every warning and error by line.
- 6
Dress the store
Install a theme, adjust it in the builder and set up menus. Your previous design never needed to come along.
Before you go live
The switch-over checklist
Products are in. Work through these before you point your domain at the new store.
Payments
Connect your own Stripe, PayPal, Square, Authorize.net or NMI account. Trial stores stay in test mode, so place a test order before you switch to live.
Shipping
Rebuild your shipping zones and rates, add pickup locations and, if you use it, connect ShipStation.
Redirects
Upload a CSV of old paths and new URLs (up to 5,000 rows per file) so links and bookmarks still land. The 404 log shows any path you missed.
Store emails
Set the sender name, and on a paid plan send from your own domain once its DNS records are verified.
Domain
On a paid plan, add your domain and update its DNS. The SSL certificate is issued automatically, then make it the primary domain.
Final test
Browse on a phone, run a checkout end to end and read the confirmation email a customer would get.
Translations can be moved the same way: export a translation CSV, fill it in and import it back. Selling in several languages
FAQ
Moving questions
Still unsure whether your file will come across cleanly? Start a trial and look at the preview, or ask us.
Which files can the importer read?
CSV files up to 20 MB: Shopify and WooCommerce product exports, BigCommerce exports (current and legacy formats), the SellOrchard template, or any other CSV whose columns you match by hand. Commas, semicolons and tabs all work.
Will my customers and order history come across?
Not through the importer — it moves your product catalogue. Customers, past orders, reviews, gift cards and blog content are not imported, so plan to keep an export of them from your old platform.
What happens to my product URLs?
Each product's handle becomes its URL slug, but the path in front of it may differ from your old platform. Upload a redirects CSV that sends each old path to its new URL so search engines and bookmarks follow.
Can I import more than once?
Yes. Run it again with “update only” to refresh prices or stock from a new file without creating duplicates — rows are matched to products by SKU, then by handle.
Is there a product limit?
New products count toward your plan's limit (500 on Basic, 10,000 on Pro, unlimited on Advanced; 25 during the 14-day trial). The preview tells you how much room is left, and any extra new products are skipped and listed rather than failing the whole import.
Where do the images go?
Image URLs in the file are downloaded into your store's media library, so they no longer depend on your old platform. The source images need to be publicly reachable while the import runs, and they count toward your plan's storage.
